This is a space dedicated to the brave individuals who have faced sepsis, whether they survived or were taken too soon. Here, we honor their journeys—stories of resilience, love, and sometimes, heartbreaking loss.

By sharing these experiences, we hope to raise awareness, offer comfort, and create a supportive community for anyone touched by sepsis. This is a place where every story matters, where we remember those we’ve lost and celebrate the strength of those who continue to fight. Together, we can make a difference in understanding and preventing sepsis.

Faces of Sepsis

Elia Epifanio

Elia Epifanio a young talent from Aargau, who had already become a two-time Swiss vice-champion in karting, seemed healthy until a mild cough and slight fever took a devastating turn due complications from bacterial pneumonia. Within hours, his condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to a septic shock that claimed his life despite multiple resuscitation attempts.

On March 31, 2023, Elia was tragically taken from his family. Elia was considered one of the most promising talents in Swiss karting, but at just 14 years old, he unexpectedly passed away due to septic shock.

To keep his memory alive, a charity race will be held on September 14, 2024, at the Wohlen (AG) karting track.

Elia Epifanio

Elia’s family is deeply committed to preserving his memory through this race. They also aim to raise awareness about sepsis, a condition that many people are not fully aware of, despite its frequent occurrence. Early detection of sepsis can be life-saving, and by organizing this event, they hope to educate others on its dangers. Their goal is to honour Elia’s legacy and to contribute to the greater good by supporting medical care for other children in need. The race serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of vigilance against sepsis and the value of community support in times of tragedy.
