The group of patients and their families in the Swiss Sepsis Program (SSP), as well as other individuals and organizations independent of the SSP, are working to combat sepsis and promote earlier detection and better treatment. Here is some information about these activities and initiatives.

Medical Follow-Up Care
Consultation post soins intensifs (Post-ICU Clinic)
In addition to self-help resources, Switzerland also offers specialized medical follow-up care. In Geneva, the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) offer the Consultation post soins intensifs (Post-ICU Clinic). This clinic is designed for people who have been in the intensive care unit and has particular expertise in the follow-up care of patients who have suffered from a serious illness, such as sepsis.
The clinic is led by Dr. med. Sara Cereghetti, who is also involved in the Swiss Sepsis Program. Patients, family members, or healthcare professionals can also contact the Post-ICU Clinic’s office at the following email address: secretariat.si@hug.ch

Trofeo Elia Epifanio: charity kart race
The “Trofeo Elia Epifanio” is a charity kart race held in memory of the young Swiss kart driver Elia Epifanio, who died in 2023 as a result of sepsis. The event combines motorsports with raising awareness about sepsis
WALK for SEPSIS Prävention: On Leg Prostheses from Basel to Gran Canaria
The “WALK for SEPSIS Prävention” is an initiative by Roger van Klaveren, a sepsis survivor. In 112 days, he will travel from Basel to Gran Canaria using leg prostheses to raise awareness about sepsis, offer encouragement to sepsis survivors, and educate the public about early detection and prevention.
Aftershock Still aLive: A podcast about sepsis (in German)
The podcast “Aftershock still aLIVE,” hosted by Heike Spreter Krick and Mariah McKimbrough, shares personal stories from sepsis survivors, their loved ones, and healthcare professionals. It focuses on experiences related to sepsis, intensive care, recovery, and life afterward.
