CHF 15,800 for sepsis care at the Children's Hospital Zurich
At the third “Trofeo Elia Epifanio” in Wohlen, CHF 15,800 was raised for the University Children’s Hospital Zurich. The donation specifically supports the detection and treatment of sepsis: The funds will finance a nurse at the Children’s Hospital Zurich—in collaboration with the Swiss Sepsis Program—who will help ensure that sepsis in children is detected as early as possible and treated promptly.
On September 19, 2026, the charity race “Trofeo Elia Epifanio” took place for the third time at the Wohlen Kart Track. Around 80 participants took to the track. The event honors the memory of Elia Epifanio, who died in 2023 at the age of 14 from septic shock. Elia was considered a great talent in Swiss karting. His parents founded the Trofeo to keep his passion for racing alive while also raising awareness about sepsis.
This year, too, the race combined athletic competition with an important cause: raising awareness of sepsis and emphasizing how crucial early detection and treatment can be. Vigilance is especially important when it comes to children: Sepsis can affect anyone, but infants and toddlers are among the groups most at risk. In these children, sepsis can worsen very quickly, while early signs can vary and are not always clear-cut. This makes it all the more important to take warning signs seriously and act quickly if sepsis is suspected.
From the Racetrack to Healthcare
A total of CHF 15,800 was donated to the Children’s Hospital Zurich this year. The support is intended to help the Children’s Hospital Zurich further develop clear protocols for managing sepsis and integrate them into everyday clinical practice. The goal is to ensure that sepsis in children isand treated as quickly as possible.
In this way, the Trofeo not only helps raise public awareness of sepsis; its commitment also provides concrete support for the further development of sepsis care at the Children’s Hospital Zurich.
