Swiss presence in Berlin

Intensive care physician, Peter Suter, who is on the steering committee of the Swiss Sepsis Program, appeared at the Berlin media conference of the German Sepsis Foundation and presented the first Swiss Sepsis Report and the Swiss Sepsis Declaration. This shows what can be done to combat sepsis, including through personal commitment. Konrad Reinhart from the Sepsis Foundation told the media that sepsis must now become a priority in the healthcare system, like heart attacks and strokes. Infection biologist Stefan Kaufmann described sepsis as “one of the greatest health risks of our time that is not given enough consideration”. A number of patients described their sepsis fates: “Sepsis is a killer” was how Kerstin Martensen, an affected patient’s mother, succinctly summed it up. Together with the “Team Stop Sepsis” association, the Sepsis Foundation has launched a petition for a national sepsis plan in Germany. The petition has already been signed by over 50,000 people.
