Swiss presence in Berlin
At a press conference held by the Sepsis Foundation in Berlin, experts and patients called for greater political priority to be given to sepsis. Swiss intensive care physician Peter Suter presented the first Swiss Sepsis Report and the Swiss Sepsis Declaration as examples of concrete action against this life-threatening disease.
Peter Suter, an intensive care physician and member of the Steering Board of the Swiss Sepsis Program, spoke at the German Sepsis Foundation’s press conference in Berlin. He presented the first Swiss Sepsis Report and the Swiss Sepsis Declaration. These documents demonstrate what can be achieved in the fight against sepsis, including through personal commitment.
Konrad Reinhart of the German Sepsis Foundation told the media that sepsis must now become a priority in the healthcare system, just as heart attacks and strokes are. Infection biologist Stefan Kaufmann described sepsis as “one of the greatest, yet most overlooked, health risks of our time.” Several sepsis survivors described their experiences: “Sepsis is a killer,” summarized Kerstin Martensen, a mother of a patient affected by the condition, succinctly.
The Sepsis Foundation, in collaboration with the “Team Stop Sepsis” association, has launched a petition calling for a national sepsis plan in Germany. The petition has already been signed by over 50,000 people.
